About Me

Hello, My name is Steven Jermaine Jones aka 5amtoday. I am a visual storyteller based in New York City, dedicated to capturing the richness, depth, and beauty of people of color. My work—whether through photography, videography, or editing—is about creating real, positive, and intentional narratives. I love us, and I strive to show us in the best light possible.

Storytelling has always been at the heart of what I do. From a young age, I wanted to be a writer, crafting narratives that lived in my head. Photography found me later in life, offering a new way to tell stories—not just with words, but with light, color, and composition. As a portrait photographer, I work closely with designers, models, brands, and stylists, shaping images that are both artistic and deeply human. My videography extends this vision, blending documentary-style authenticity with cinematic intention.

At the core of my work is a desire to highlight what often goes unseen—to tell stories that deserve space, to elevate moments that might otherwise pass unnoticed. Whether I’m behind a camera shooting film or digital, or in the editing suite refining the final frame, my goal is always to create visuals that resonate, that linger, that honor the subjects I capture.

My work is more than just capturing images—it’s about representation, emotion, and perspective. It’s about showing us as we are: powerful, complex, and beautifully real.
